September 2012: The “hassle” of networking

As in investor or entrepreneur it is extremely important to have a good network. And, perhaps even more important, maintain that network. That also means you need to put a fair bit of effort in maintaining it. As so often is it not necessarily the quantity that matters, but more the quality. In maintaining the network you unfortunately need to spend a fair bit of hours zipping coffees, latte’s, frappe chino’s and what have yous without a direct outcome or result. However, every now and again you stumble upon something really good. This month I had one of these meetings.

In one of my catch-up meetings I was introduced to someone in the startup community of Orlando (Florida). Where? Yes, that was my first reaction as well. Turns out however, that they have a vibrant start up community and are developing a very interesting niche of startups. Although the valley is needless to say the big league, there are some very interesting (emerging) pockets of activity elsewhere.

So, long story short always put an effort in your network and above all keep an open mind!
